Question How much did you pay for your rebuild? (labor only)

i need a ballpark figure. my lifters are stuck in my block so my mechanic (its just a thing he does on the side) is going to pull the motor and just rebuild the whole thing. he has never done anything like this for an LS1 and isnt sure on what to charge.i know he will be less then any shop around town but i dont even know what they charge for this kind of thing.

just let me know what you paid for labor and who did your work (friend, guy who does it on the side, perf shop, dealer?)

thanks in advance
kyle

Labor to bore, hone, deck a new block, then polish the stock crank, install new pistons, rods, balance everything, was around $750 at a machine shop that builds motors. His shop had done a lot of LS1's, so I trusted his work and its been working out good so far for me.

I was quoted a $1,000 in labor for the R&R of an engine awhile back from two of the bigger shops here in Florida, both sponsors but I'll leave the names out anyhow as they aren't really needed.

personally if he hasn't ever worked on an LS1 before, I'd get someone who has, rebuild it. these aren't just regular chevy small blocks. there are tons of sponsors that can rebuild your block that do it every week, also some non-sponsors that people can point you towards. just make sure you get someone that knows what they're doing. cheap isn't always better.

to answer your question, $800-1k sounds about right for R&R from a pro shop. Cheaper if you find a shade tree mechanic. Full rebuilds can vary depending on parts used.

1k sounds good to remove and replace. Thats complete engine, not having to mess with bolting heads up, etc.

but i agree, take it to someone familiar with the LSx based engines for the rebuild, like travis said this aint no SBC.
