squeak/chirp even when both belts are OFF..
I've been hearing a squeak/chirp at idle (under 1200rpm) and I attributed it to the TSB for the AC belt/tensioner issue...
Today, I pulled off both belts and fired up the car.. it STILL does it... What the hell could it be? My power steering has a small leak, which is getting the alternator wet.. maybe the crank pulley got wet and is squeaking?
I did the screwdriver stethoscope and I can hear the squeak when it's up against the block (above water pump area.. small gulley by TB) and I can hear the chirp when I'm laying under the car.. by the trans area..
I have a recently rebuilt t56 and a new pilot/slave/t.o. in it.. The sound is NOT affected by the clutch.
ideas? This is driving me up the wall!!

man, I just replaced the throwout like 2 months ago.. the last thing I want to do is pull out the trans.. Damnit man! So I guess the noise is being carried through the aluminium block and the crank.. and that's why it sounds like it's coming from the front. Crazy.
