Getting to 400 Horse Power
Trying to see if I could net 400 hp on my 98 SS A/4 with headers, lid, ls6 intake, true duals, z06 heads, and a hot cam? If not what do you think I may see and what could I add to get closer that I havent done that is truely a beneficial mod.

i take it you want 400 wheel hp? cuz that combo will make it on crank easy.
the auto will eat some more hp than the manual will. the hot cam is the 218/227 .525/.525 cam it could be close, but you might want abit more cam to hit 400wheel. something in the higher 220's duration

Search the internal engine and dyno results sections.
You can net 400 flywheel horsepower with nothing but bolt-ons. What converter? You DO want a high stall converter before you get a cam...and start saving money for a tranny rebuild.
Heads/cam/stalled A4 can make 400 rwhp. FYI: The hotcam leaves power on the table, if you are at all concerned with power/track times get a better cam.

Mikey at Rapid has made over 400rwhp with Heads/Hotcams easy...its all in the combo/tuning. you can do it.
I personally wouldnt waste the time...Id go bigger off the bat knowing what I know now.

so something it the 22_`s/22_`s ?
I dont mind going up in cam I am a new comer to cam & heads ive always been just bolt ons so I dont want a cam that is crazy expensive, rough idle, or too much for the stock tranny and rearend any suggestions on one that meets all these and will net 400+rwhp?

Larger cam will make 400rwhp with room to spare. I hit 399rwhp with stock heads. Larger cam or not, 400rwhp is 400rwhp and it's going to be hard on your tranny and 10 bolt. Mine have both lasted but many people have not been as lucky.

I guess I'll throw my input in. I haven't gotten the dyno yet, but I'm at about 400rwhp right now give or take a very few hp. The biggest difference is in the tune. A good tune can make 385 while an amazing tune can make 400 and drive better. I chose this setup because It was a good base set without sacrificing daily drivability, and going bigger only means adding the supercharger (Which GS Performance is doing this weekend and then retuning). Regardless of what you pick, just be sure to chose a setup with expandability and chose parts that you won't have to replace. Its ok to start small, so long as things don't limit your ability to go bigger. Look for things like LS6 cam if you want to see what 400 feels like but wan't a good DD blower cam. Invest money in lightening your valvetrain and beefing up the weak points. If you need any other help just PM me.

im looking at a B1 someone mentioned would be a good shot for me its a 221/221 .558/.558 114 but the cam actually specs out to be a 224/224 is what i was told and they were claiming 39x/38x with it, this car will still have to be a daily driver and as nice as 11`s sound it may be a bit much if the wife ever has to drive it but any other suggestions I`ll take em

Hi guys... [not to hi-jack your thread]
...I was under the impression (from my performance shop and tuner) that a cam with a 112 LSA was not the best friend to an A4??? something to do with the chop and making it idle...and I thought the "hot cam" was a 112LSA...
I was going to also go this route with my C5 (along with LS6 heads) but was turned off when I was told that it would not be a good daily driver cam???

My torquer was cut on a 112, and I daily drove it with no probs- with an A4. Tuning it wasn't bad at all. The easiest would be to leave it stock, but what fun would that be?

see sig
With bolt ons and the TR224 on a LSA 114, im at just under 370 RWHP. When I get my AFR 205s at 63CC, Ill be just over 400 RWHP.
This is done with not a radical cam, and heads not milled to much. My compression will be 10.8:1. Very safe for 91 or 93 oct fuel on a hot summer day.
Sure guys are milling heads to 59cc, 11.4:1 compression, and running .600 lift cams, putting dowm more than 450 RWHP. Im sure that's crazy fun power, but my car will last longer and have less issues ( I hope ).
Im willing to give up 50 RWHP and drive the car for another 20 years without anything major breaking.
