you might have to take this question to the advanced section. is there any oil in the coolant? it sounds like the block could be cracked. let it be known that the oil goes to the lifters first before it gets to the crank and rods. so if the lifters arent getting oil, neither is the crank. did you put your oil gauge at the pressure tap the dash gauge uses? see what the pressure is there.

Oil leaves the pump, goes to the oil filter and then heads up to the lifter galley. The mains and rods are fed from the lifter galley. Change the oil filter first?
This is the second engine to have this problem in as many days..........

Good luck,

Richard

was this motor on a stand or something when you started it? if it was in a vehicle did you not plug in the oil pressure sensor?

it might as well be on a stand. its in a front engine sandrail (truggy) i put the rear cover back on and the flexplate screwed in a pressure gauge on the top and started it again w/ the valve covers off and nothing @ the gauge and nothing out of the push rods??????????????

I have seen this problem with a warped cam retainer plate or back cover bleeding off the pressure...

thanks everyone!!! turns out it was the o-ring seal on the p/u tube. i could barely feel a difference between the new one and the oil one when i replaced it but none the less its fixed 60psi everywhere! it took about a minute for oil to come out of the push rods (and about 4k rpm)
thanks for all the help

I have the same problem, but I did replace the seal on the pickup tube when I assembled the lower end. But we have not run the engine over about 45 seconds as it has no coolant in it yet. You ran it at 4k rpm for a minute before it primed up? Was the engine missing and squeaking up top? It has oil pressure, gauge shows 65 PSI and the lifters primed and got quiet. I will finish it and put coolant in and run it to see if it will clear up.Any other suggestions?
