Edit, the cam I purchased through Texas Speed is from Comp Cams.

As an update to mine: I sent my cam out to Cam Motion for a polish: and so far, so good! (Knock on wood!).

Kip took great care of me! Couldn't thank/recommend him enough!!

So lesson learned: people say it here until they're blue in the face: if you're ordering a cam, and doing the work yourself, save yourself the trouble and get a cam motion cam. I know the bigger companies all have their merits, and only a handful slip through that have issues, but with Cam Motion you're getting a product they absolutely stand behind.

And if they're willing to help out non-customers, I can't imagine what they'll do for their own customers!

Interesting thread!

I have a whining engine also after installing a BTR cam (ground by Comp). Not as loud as some of the videos here, but def. noticeable. I thought my PS pump was doing the whining.

Question I have for the experts is if I continue to run the engine, will the lifters eventually polish the cam and quiet things up?

I'm no expert, but the noise was described to be caused by the roller bouncing on the cam, and not rolling smoothly over it: my guess would be that since its bouncing it wouldn't polish anything... And probably won't wear traditionally.

Well that would suck. Mine's not loud enough to take out just yet, again it sounds like a slightly loud PS pump. But at least now I know where its coming from and the fix thanks to this thread.

Comp has picked up another victim. Bought and installed a btr stg4 last week. Whines like crazy making me think i have install problems. Not to mention Btr recommended a giant cam for a street car. My tuner says i would have much more usable power with half the cam and a good tune. Wish i would have just went turbo.

I have only seen one picture in this thread with the chatter marks, if you look at this picture
close you can see the chatter marks going from side to side, little flat spots, you can roll the lifter across the cam lobe and feel the "speed bumps" as they were described earlier, and you can most definately tell it would whine. This is a Cam Motion core and Cam Motion
has already resolved the issue, very quickly I might add.

Christ, just seeing this thread. I had a shop do a cam swap on my 04 C5Z. Told me they were going to use a Cam Motion core. Nope, had Comp Cams grind the BTR Stage 4 NA cam. Whined so bad, thought it was my trans, plus the valve train chatter. Impossible to tune smooth too, worst experience ever!

Wow. I really hope I can avoid this when I order my cam kit this spring. Planning on ordering from Texas speed. Tv2 would be my first choice

His name is Adam Pettis (Innovative Street Technologies, here in Niceville). He has worked with me over the past 2 weeks. 5 years ago when i installed LT, i installed the rear O2s (longer stock wires) thinking everything would be fine. Well after his first tune attempt and me not mentioning that i ported/descreened my maf and had the wrong O2s hooked up, the car was running like crap. He found all my prior useless LS1TECH free HP Mods, which seemed to really mess with my tuning. He replaced O2s, Maf, Map, Tps and re-tuned to stock till we get on the dyno this Friday. He is a "go getter", he wont stop till its done right. Done right is getting very expensive!

238 242 110 580 620, I believe, i'll have to check my cam card to be sure. I've heard nothing but good things about cam motion. If this BTR Stg4 doesn't work out after the new tune, i'll be going with a custom grind cam motion!

Have you contacted BTR about the whine noise? They should take care of you, if you think it's actually the cam.

I installed the cam but the kit i bought from BTR was $1250 (cam, springs, pushrods, oil pump, lifters and gaskets). First tune $300 + 4hrs on Dyno $200, 6hrs of diagnostics and sensor install labor $450, O2s MAF MAP TPS $300... Retune this Friday $$? + $100 an hr on a different dyno. This sucks!

Im almost 100% sure its the comp grind, earlier in this thread there is a video of a GTO with "Comp cam whine". Mine sounds identical.

Sensor install labor? Dude I won't lie, it takes about 10-15 minutes to install them, you just run an OBD2 and see if they even need to be replaced, otherwise you're just going down the rabbit hole guessing. I would take it to a different guy, I'd be pissed if someone charged me that much for that.
