Default Heads interchangeable between sides?

I'm swapping some ported 317s on to the Formula and ran across something myself and my friend's cannot answer.

The 853s I've pulled from the car (stock heads) actually are side specific, with cylinder casting numbers cast into the head. The passenger's side has "8" cast into the forward cylinder area, while the driver's side has "7". The 317s do not have any castings with this likeness.

So, does it matter which side the 317s go on? Thanks.

All ls1 based heads should be interchangable left and right. And the numbers 7 and 8 cylinders are rearmost, not forward.

Oops, my 853s do have the castings on the rear side. But they still have them, indicating side-specific for whatever reason...

Anyways, thanks. I jsut wanted to make sure the 317s could go on either side.
