OK, looks like I've got all the tools I need to calc DCR and I'll be measuring P to v during install. Going back to the basics while reading the DCR document I was reminded of this, "Note: The quench distance (piston/head clearance) should always be set between .035" and .045" with the lower limit giving the best performance and detonation resistance."
So on a stock LS1 block and internals we can assume (will verify with micrometer) that we have an out of hole of .007" so a .040" gasket leaves us a .033" quench and a .045" gasket .038".
Is .033" too tight or is it close enough to the lower recomendation?
Conversely, is .038" in the sweet spot, or am I sacrificing a little bit of performance and resistance to detination?
Finally, how bad is .047"? (OEM gasket)
