Anybody that ever Blew up an LS1
Just wondering about anybody that has ever blew up an LS1 wondering what happened like what was the failure and cause and what were the miles & mods. Kinda tryin to get the idead or what these motors can really take before they give.

~80K miles, shifted into 2nd instead of 4th at the redline. Worked "fine" for a few months and then had lifter/lifter tray failure that ate the cam and lifter. requiring a total rebuild.
That was WITH a pro 5.0 shifter, too.
Been down for 10 months due to idiots, hope to get it back next week.
</been saying that for 8 months>

Hmm yeah my buddy did something similar in his 01 WS6 did it a few too many times but the final tome he went from 2nd to first and spun a bearing.....probably didnt help the thing was somehow just over 2 qt low on oil....a week after an oil change, or so he says. Car was stock with the Hurst shifter and a loud mouth like exhaust on it (Custom) and a K&N Filter like 42K on it.

Oh, yeah, one of my rods was bent, too. They said it looked like detonation, but I'll be damned if I know when that happened.
Mods at the time of mis-shift were Boltons and cam.

Rod problem 8000 miles on a 05 GTO, yeah, not happy! I'm gonna replace it with a 402 from tsp. Mods are in sig. It happened at the track shifting from 3rd-4th, actuall I hadn't shifted yet but getting ready to@6200rpm.

With everything below, minus the forged 347, heads, and a fm14 cam instead of a ms3, I spun a bearing on the number 7 cylinder. Had 35000 miles on the stock block and I guess I just kept over-reving it too much.

160k on mine before it spun a bearing. Oil was low, but it had been burning oil for sometime and just kept dumping more and more, so I think it was just getting worn out anyways. And up until that time, it always had 150 shot on it, so I don't think it's really that bad.

I believe I spun a bearing over the weekend. As with Monica, my engine has been burning a qt every month and it was low last week so I just filled it. I ran it hard on Woodward Ave. and started to knock that got louder when I revved it. My engine is also a 98 which is notorious for oiling problems. LS1's can take abuse, but once they are oil starved or overrevved like any other engine, parts start to go bad.

Mine came apart at 5# of boost and partial throttle. Leaned it out and it knocked the top of the #2 piston off... Never did find the piece, and it didn't do much damage to the head... Didn't go through the turbo, but I did find metallic liquid that resembled piston material.

yeah
I destroyed (split a piston in half, cracked two others, snaped a rod in half, destroyed the oil pan, luckily the heads only needed minor machine work just 2 bent valves) my 98 LS1 block, mods - long tube headers, !AIR !REAR 02, Aerochamber muffler. --- This Was All While Coming Up To An Intersection, I was doing about 65mph.

This may not count but do to a so called mechanic, my cam bolts backed out(no thread lock) floated all the valves onto pistons, 1 valve head lodge sideways in the top of a piston then took out a spark plug and damaged head. That *** cost me $7500+ car was down for 1 year and 3 months.

Mine had about 75,000 miles on it. Full bolt-ons, heads and cam. I through rod, cracked a piston, shattered the oil pan, and bent a vavle. All I can say is thank god it happened on the dyno.
