Default Checking Your Work Before Install

Ok, so I have never actually run my engine. I bought a used engine and started my build. I am almost done with the build but would like to test it as best I can before installing it into the car.

What are somethings I can do to test the engine's functionality (aside from an engine dyno) in my garage before dropping it into my car?

Thanks!

Neal

If you've modified anything it's always a good idea to check piston to valve clearance and lifter preload.

I use some clay for the piston/valve clearance but how do I check preload?

The easiest way is to use a pushrod length checker.
