Default best cam in cali other than 224/224 (please help)

Next week i will be buying a cam and i want something other than the tr224. Most people out here run this cam and no doubt this is a great cam but im looking for something different than everyone else. I have long tubes and all bolt on mods, 411 gears and a m6. There are several guys here who know there **** when it comes to cams. please advise me of some other options. thanks

are you looking for smog legal, i see you have long tubes. for the most power a 224 is about the max. if you want different you will probably see less power. i have heard some say that they pass with a 228 cam, but those are just hear say's. you should call up someone and tell them you situation, like synergy in norcal. they should be able to recommend a custom grind. good luck. california sucks. i have the tr224 and live incalifornia so i know. if i had to do it again i would'nt change a thing.

I have called and was told that the 224/224 114 or under with same lsa would work. What i would do is just take off my long tubes and put stock **** back on for the smog. I was just looking at something different than 224/224 but if thats the best i can get i will get it. thanks for your help

224/224 you will be more then happy with, if you want a little more just juice her, that way it won't show up on smog

224/224 114 looks like what im going to get. Is it true that 114 will pass smog better than 112 due to its -4 overlap. Or do you think i will pass smog with a 112 lsa insted?

I know they are not super well known on this board, but give Vinci High Performance a call. I have installed some of their smaller medium sized cams that make REALLY good useable power. And i dont think you would have a big problem on emissions. Their cams are not real "peaky" on HP, but make fantastic power and torque all throughout the RPM. Many guys install VHP cams in their corvettes and GTO's who want good power increases but not driveabiliy issues

With a MS3, you must be kidding

For Cali, the safe bet is to run a cam with at least -4 overlap and -6 to be safe.

With today's LSK lobes hitting the market, this what I would run. Lower durations with high lifts with proper VEs for powerband desired.

Crane/Vinci/SDPC 066 Cam has -4* overlap 220/224-114 with 0.551 282/286 @ 0.004
So easy ramp rates with good broad power. However Id be tempted to get something with faster ramps.

I doubt anyone could get a 228 cam to pass unless they were using a very wide LSA or had a helluva tune...

Then again, I'm not in Cali, so what do I know.

I'm with PredatorZ on this one, use LSK lobes on a custom ground cam. Without checking VE's, something like a 218/224 cam on a 114 + 2 would be a great start.

I have the perfect cam for you. 223lsk/228xer 116+3 passed smog and made 442rwhp in my CTSV. If I was'nt doing a 408, I would have put it back in. Let me know.

Whats the lift on this cam? Will i be able to use 918 springs with this cam or use double springs?

LSK lobes are some of the most agressive ones out there right now. While that makes a great emissions legal cam with plenty of time at higher lifts for better flow potential, they do exceed .600 lift even at modest durations. 918 springs are less that required, 921's are probably better suited.

LSK Lobes

Also, check out the cam sticky
