Default engine problems

Please help. this post is alittle premature, but i thought id start it anyways. last night driveing home i noticed my oil pressure to drop to 40psi while driving and alittle below 40psi at an idle. now usually that wouldnt even make me think twice but, i have a ported oil pump i put in less than 3000 miles ago and ever since then the oil pressure has been around 70 at start up, 60 under load and 55ish at an idle. once i noticed the drop in pressure i pulled out from the stop light hanging my head out of the window listening and between 2000 and 3500 rpms a knock has developed. makes my skin squirm hearing it. got it home and parked it. hard to hear the knock just revving the car. only really hear it under load. my thoughts started at broken or loose rocker arm. ill check that today when i change the oil to look for metal shavings . i was suggested the the oil pump went bad. my main thought and nightmare is that a bearing is letting loose. any thoughts before i check on this crap? with our cars being ODBII, would the loss in pressure throw a code? or if anything broke, would that throw a code? so the only good thing is, if the engine has to come out...he comes a forged bottem end. so what exactly does a forged bottem end consist of? whats a round about cost for one and what brands should be looking at?

The computer wont tell you anything. Youre on the right track as far as looking for clues. Good luck man, i hope its not anything serious. Could just be a small bit of debris caught in the relief valve that might work its way out. Happened to me once with the same symptoms.

ok here is what i came across. drained the oil.....on the magnetic oil plug there was fine metal filings, ran a magnet through the old oil, and came across some metal flakes.

Bearing material is mostly not magnetic, if a rod was bad enough to shave the crank you'd hear it. That leaves cam, and lifters that I can think of but doesn't explain the drop in preesure. How bad is the knock, and you can't hear it just idling?

I went over to his house today and listened to this before he drained the oil and saw the metal flakes. It isn't really noticeable at idle but if you pick up the rpm's you can hear it. It is really loud while driving at 2000-3000 rpm. To me it doesn't sounds like a valve train noise. It is a solid sounding knock But you can hear it in the top of the motor no really under the car so much. I was kind or thinking it might be a wrist pin or something. Since it is a lot louder when the car is under load I think it would be in the buttom end. And a spun or bad bearing could account for the reduced oil preasure

the flakes that i retrieved out of the oil werent magnetic... i strained the oil through some shop towels. one side of the metal flake looks shiney the other side like copper...im thinking rod bearings or main

Sounds like a bearing issue to me......non-metallic flakes, drop in pressure and a knock under load are sure signs

Put a bright dot on the crank pulley and using the throttle body, rev it up to 2.5K where you hear the sound. You should be able to tell if the noise is at full engine speed (crank or main bearings) or half engine speed (valvetrain, cam, or lifters). That should help you narrow it down.

any suggestions on brands and so forth on a forged bottem end? not cheap but not too pricey!

put the emergancy brake on...put the car in first and/or drive and ease on the gas...if the knock gets very loud under load ...probably is a bearing...mains are notarious for singing when this is done...good luck
