Question Retarding And Advancing A Cam Question??

Ok i was just wondering what does this do??
when you retard a cam?
and when you advance it?
does it set it to where the valves open sooner or later or something like that? i was just wondering never got it cleared up. and why do you have to retard your cam when you put like maybe a 150 shot of nos on it? sorry may be a stupid question to yall but im sure theres more than 1 person wondering the same question.

Default

Advanceing or retarding the cam simply changes the valve opening and closing events. That has a really significant impact on how your engine runs though. The specific effect depends on the specific cam grind.

You don't do anything with your cam to run a small shot of nitrous. You want to retard your ignition timing.
