WOW. Sounds like fun. Well for the obvious first...... Axles eat their own **** with slicks, not to mention laughing gas and slicks....... so boo on you for not dishing out 200 for a pair.
The alternator, if still not working..... Sounds dead. Spinning an alternator at a track up past 6k burns the brushes. If it isn't dead there is one fuse under the dash and one under the hood. Plus plugs. OR maybe your gauge died. Unlikely but possible. If you have a multimeter, do a voltage check, and also resistance across the alt positive out and the body of the alternator.

The idle. My car did the same thing the other day when a cell in my battery died. I had to get it jumped to get it to the store.... and on the way the idle was at 550, vs. 800. I pulled my AIT cheater resistors out and plugged the stock sensor in. The idle stabilized itself in about 15 minutes, right at the parts store.......
I have a slight suspicion that when you fix the alternator, your idle might start to feel less like a 92 Geo Metro with a vaccuum leak.. Good luck.
