Default Cam specs AFR 224/228 Grind

On AFR's website, there grind is 224/228 581/581, but alot of people are saying the grind is, Comp 224/228 .581 .588 114+1 , can anyone verify what the exact specs are. Im trying to follow Mamo's recipe to the "T". Any other info like pushrod length, CC size etc, would also be helpful. thanks in advance.

I think you should buy a tool to measure pushrod length because each motor is a little different. I'm running 7.350" PR, which measures to 0.075" preload on my motor. It's a tad noisy like this, so I got some 7.375" that I intend to install.

You can find info about this combo if you search some of my old threads, but in a nut shell:

205 AFR head milled .....I think his was 59cc, not sure. I went with 62cc.
0.040" Cometic HG
The cam: Comp 224/228 .581 .588 114+1

You'll have a nice set up if you follow the recipe, but don't expect 480 rwhp. It takes a lot of attention to detail, a skilled tuner, and all the other bolt-ons to reach a lofty number like that.

Good luck, brotha.

What did your compression ratio end up being and what kind of numbers did you lay down? Also does the combo change if you have an automatic car? thanks in advance..

I think my SCR is around 11:1, and the car did 427 rwhp and 397 rwtq on a Dynojet.

The combo can be the same for your automatic. If you're into drag racing, I would advise more gear, however.

Yeah I'm going to add gears later. Probably going to do a 3.42
427/397 is pretty stout considering room for a 90/90.

Mamo's cam is a comp grind. When I was using his cam, I didn't want to wait 3 weeks to get it back (probably longer now since they are in the process of moving) so I just called ls1speed.com and gave them the specs and they can grind it for you in a couple days. Just ask Tony for the specs.

Also, I am pretty certain Mamo does not run this cam with 59 cc chambers, I think you will run into PTV problems. Just shoot him a PM, he got back to me on a Sunday before.

Yeah, I PM'd him already, but I'm in negotiations right now with another member for this cam. I just need to be sure, in-case it takes him a couple days to reply. He probably gets a lot of PM's.

Comp 224/228 .581 .588 114+1 install the cam straight up. Mill the heads .024, call tony for proper push rod length.

You will love this setup...sweet h/c that will pull hard for such a mild cam. Power under the curve is just incredible; and youll be amazed on how your car will beat big cam guys from a roll...

oh and it drives like stock when just cruising around.

LS1ENVY, I am running the 228/232 588/592 110+1 XER custom grind cam. This is a very popular cam on this site. Shoot me a pm with your email address and I will send you my dyno sheet. 451/421 350rwtq at 2500 rpms and 360rwtq at 3000. Although I did not get the full potential from Mamo's cam, he has gotten them to put down 470/420 before. This is with every possible bolt on, electric water pump, and open exhaust, if I remember correctly. Both are great cams but at the time I installed this one, I wanted huge bottom end power. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

I mean this with the utmost respect YO-EL but your TQ numbers are very low!! Decent quarter mile time though.

Gee, thanks bro for the heads up, but I'm not overly concerned.... haha!

That dyno was a load bearing Eddy type dyno..
Converter was unlocked..same as if it would be on the street or at the track.

I have #'s that you might like:
On a Dynojet where the converter was locked, the TQ was 407..

Previous posts here on the site say:

Who cares about dyno numbers, just take the **** to the track and run the car. Ding!

Yeah dont be a dyno queen, hit the track. Ding!

But, dyno racing sucks and is for posers.
Before/After results are the only thing that matters!

DING DING DING!!!!!
