Cool right cam

I have a 99 SS with 160 thermo, slp high flow maf, slp LTH w/ ypipe and high flow cats(in cal), k&n air injection kit. I am looking for the best mid to high cam set up that still has good driveability. I need all the help I can get.

Are there any cams that you are currently considering? Do you need to pass Cali emissions? Have you ridden in any cammed cars and know what you consider "good driveability"? If you need to pass Cali emission you'd be safe with a Thunder Racing 224/224 114 LSA.
Good Luck

I have considered MTI X1, Compcams 414, and a crane cam. I want rpm operating range to be between 2500 and 6000. As far as driveability goes I still have to drive it everyday. If I get a new cam how big should the lift be before I have to get new springs.

your best bet is to do the springs right away. you dont want to risk it. i also suggest the TR224. great mid range and doesnt fall off on the top side.

Sounds like your looking for something in the 224-228 range. If you have a manual then by all means get the 228 at a 112 lsa. It would be very driveable and should get you pretty close to 400rwhp. Anytime you swap a cam you should put new springs, seats, retainers, and pushrods. Being it is a 99, hows the oil pressure look at idle right now? If it isn't good then I can see a problem with cam bearings maybe. Also, to be super correct, one should replace lifters, rockers, and oil pump with a high mileage car. Also get a pulley. The stock one will have to come off for the cam swap procedure so you might as well put a pulley on. There's just no limit to amount of coin you can spend.
