Default Copper Spray Stock Head Gaskets?

I was just curious if this is necessary, or a good idea? That's all, thanks!

I sprayed some on mine, and I haven't had any problems. I did it because I had a can(spray can,not bottle/brush) laying around, from a couple 5.0 builds we did.

Just another way to provide some extra seal. I think some people do it on MLS gaskets just to make sure they seal correctly on the whole deck surface.

The reason I asked is because the stock gaskets are of a different material and appear to be much softer than the aftermarket MLS gaskets out there. I have a can of copper spray lying around so I guess I'll use it, it worked great with my Cometics.

Never used it either. All my gaskets have done there job, but if you have some imperfections on the head or block deck, probably not a bad idea to spray some on there.

I guess I'll be spraying my Cometics when they get put on in March. The first set without spray wouldn't seal so GM Performance were used and they failed after about 4000 miles or so. 2800 + relatively hard driving miles. LOL, you've seen my vids ....

I have always spray copper sealant on my steel gaskets (Cometics) and have not had a leak yet....

Back when I had my DSM, some of those guys swore by that stuff when running over 17psi boost. Helped in the prevention of pushing oil into the coolant @ boost. I used it on my DSM when I replaced the head gasket, and it worked great at 17psi on pump fuel. BTW, I was using a MLS gasket on my DSM when I used that copper spray......

Don't know of anyone that has used it on an LSx though.....

The GM MLS gaskets already have a black viton rubber coating. I didnt bother spraying copper on mine.

Spraying the stock gaskets would be a bit of overkill. The only reason I ever use copper spray is for my cometics, and that's just to play it safe. A lot of people don't spray them and they still seal like a charm.

I mounted the heads about 30 minutes ago with copper spray on the gaskets. If they leak then I will probably shoot myself.

Not too sure but from what I was told is that it is good to use on a mls gasket and anything more than 11 to 1 compression. I used it on mine and it is holding pretty well (knock on wood)

What is the actual name of the copper spray and who makes it? I am swapping heads and cam this winter and plan on using cometics. My car isn't a dd but I don't want problems when I do drive it.

I'm guessing it is a common thing found at any auto parts store. I'm going to be switching to cometics as well this winter and will spray them just to make sure everything works out as planned.
