Default cant get a spark plug out

Im working on my camaro trying to get the spark plugs out and all but one came out ok. the last one is really hard to turn, it will move but i dont want to risk breaking it off. i think one of my classmates may have cross threaded it. is there any way i can get this thing out without ruining everything? and how can i straighten out the threads again. thanks

I wish I could help but all that I can say is that I pray it's not your number eight plug...

I would squirt a little penetrating oil as close to the threads as possible and let it sit for a while. While that's happening I'd get all the other plugs in, put all of the wires on, and fire up the engine to put a little heat in it. When the head warms up the spark plug hole will expand a few thousandths of an inch and the plug may come out then.

Good luck.

well the problem is that im taking it apart because the motor started knocking and has since locked up. i want to see if i can turn the motor backwards, to see if a valve has dropped into the piston and see if thats whats holding it up. thats why i was taking the plugs out. so, i cant really run the engine right now...

well i would worry about it for now if you think a valve dropped. that means you have to pull the head anyway. so who cares about the plug?

If you pull the rocker cover off you'll know if a valve had dropped. If your motor has seized you can wait on trying to get that plug out until you have the head sitting on the bench. The only time you have an excuse to be in a hurry when installing spark plugs is when you're late for the staging lanes. Tell your friend to take his time and be sure to use some anti-seize. You didn't blame the motor seizeing up on your friend so someone else must have forgot to check their oil. You have to work hard to hurt an LSx, but it can be done.

it has plenty of oil and it is clean (i changed it less than two weeks before it started knocking). also according to the stock gauge, even after it strated knocking and right up until it quit working it built up oil pressure to 40 psi just as it always had (mind you i only ran it for a few seconds maybe twice because i wanted to listen to it). the weird thing is the motor was running just fine, i shut it off for two minutes, then went back to it and it was knocking, so i really dont understand what happened.

I agree with the others. Just start tearing it down and diagnosing the problem. Sounds like that plug could be the least of your worries. Good luck buddy.

Just jumped in a seen this thread, any word on what the problem was? Great advise about heating the motor, I will have to rememeber that one! I started a thread on how to install a LS1 in my 69 vette. Please check it out if you know how to do this...
