Default Cam and gas mileage

Yea i know what a dumb question, but i need to ask it. I jsut recently got my cam installed, yes full tune, but needs more tune work. stay tuned for details. So i filled up the tank. Keep in mind it has been cold here in chi-town and even if i were to nail the car i would get no traction what so ever. Anyways, at about little over half tank i was at 100 miles. Now again i have not gone past 3K RPMs.... Before my cam, at half tank i would be at 150. What is the deal?

Ok back to why my car needs tuning. My car is going back in this monday. here is why. My car's idle is set at 1000 RPMs. I am going to request that it be set at 800-900. the decater (sp) rate is a little messed up too. Approaching a stop light/sign, i take the car outta gear and the RPMs fev up to 2000 - 2300 RPMs sit there intil i depress the clutch or until the motor itslef slows down. And at around 1500 - 1800 RPMs my car bucks, prolly b/c i need a gear. damn 3.42 (M6)

but that is why i think my gas mileage could suck b/c i need more tunning??

Any ideas???

Thanks

yes you need more tuning.... tuning is magic for these cars! i drove an untuned hotcam for 9 months, and it bucked like that and revved up at random times....gas mileage wasnt very good either, but she ran very rich..

My gas mileage fell some. When I say some I mean not alot.

On the highway I can pull between 330 and 345 to the tank. On the street I get right at 275. I have an M6 with stock gears. 230/224 cam, and bolt ons with tune. I shift around 2k when driving around. I have noticed anything above that, and you can literally watch the gas needle head to E...lol.

15-17 in the city with warming the car up for 5 min. Highway between 23-25mpg.

I have a G5X4 with 4.30 gears. I drive 75mph in 6th gear which is just above 2100 RPMs.

My car was on the dyno for 3-4 hours but the only changes I made between the first tune I had and a retune was a bigger cam and FAST 90/NW 90 setup.

The tuning your needing isnt on the dyno, but rather the drivability tuning.

+1

sounds like they spent the majority of their time tweaking for the best HP numbers, but didn't do much to stabilize your idle or A/F ratio at part throttle.

seems that is what they did, but how do you go about stabalizing the idle and A:F ratio at part throttle? My A:F is 12.9..

More opinions please

12.9 is excellent for WOT, but it should be stoich (14.7) or really close the rest of the time. There are several tweaks for getting the engine to return to a proper idle, from checking IAC motor position, to setting the throttle stop correctly, to adjust the throttle cracker, and on, and on.

I've not done any tuning yet, but I've researched it some. You may try searching, or get more specific answers in the Tuning Forum.

That's the problem with to many shops tuning. All they care about is a high number, when drivability is just as, if not more important.

After my cam install and tune my gas mileage has decreased severely. I used to get about 220 to a tank, now I have never broke 200, it's usually around 160-180 a tank. I always fill up after the check gauges light comes on.

Mine doesnt seem to be too good either.. TR224 cam + m6 + 3.42 and get maybe 230 miles on highway. I may end up getting it retuned as mine also seems to buck at low rpm's.

7 hrs on the dyno is a LONG time for anything but a very radical cam.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 10:00 PM.
