Default Heads, educate me please!

I've been reading on the different kinds of heads that came factory on LS1 cars but still don't completely understand the differences. I know my car has the shitty 806 heads and the later models have the better 241's. My question is, does the standard corvette in 01 and 02 have the 241's as well as the ZO6 or are they a different casting number? Someone set my straight, I'm a little confused on what came on what. Thanks!

98's came with the worst flowing heads, which are the 806's. Then there are the better flowing heads that came on the later f-bodies, which i believe are the 241's. The z06 came with the 243 heads, which are the ls6 heads. I could be completely wrong but I am pretty sure thats how the heads go.

i don't think all 98's came with 806's. a friend of mine has a 98 with 853 heads. not much better but still doesn't flow like 241's or 243's.

you could also use the heads from the 5.3L on our cars but they will raise compression.

Thanks for the help, so with minor porting the 241's can make some decent power correct? I'm just trying to figure out a way to make good power while not putting too big of a dent in my wallet. Does the 241's have the same size valves as the 806's?

Well couldn't I also take a set of 241's and have them decked to raise my compression a half point or so? I've noticed people running the 5.3L heads but wouldn't they flow less? Or is the Runner size the same as LS1 heads? I'm definately learning something here! Thanks!

no 98's came with 853's, the 98's were the only fbody with perimeter valve covers. 853 castings were center bolt.

Yea you will ened new valve covers if you switch out heads on a 98. Also a good idea to upgrade your coil packs to the newer ones that came on the 99+ f-bodies.

I think what JRP was trying to say was that 1998 model vehicles did not come with 853's
