Default What cam for TEA 1.5 5.3ltr 58cc heads?

*EDIT* the heads are milled 20thousands and they are 59cc and the SCR would be 11.3-1 with the stock GM head gasket per Mike at TEA. Thanks Mike!!

I currently run a TR224/224 .563/.563 112lsa in my cam only setup M6, which I am sure would work well but I have ready many times that you should buy a cam that works best with your heads.....not the other way around. So since I was going to upgrade to a LS2 timing chain when I put the heads on I might as well slide a new bump stick in there!

I am not worried about peak #'s, more about torque and power under the curve.

This car is a street car 99% of the time but I do enjoy making runs down the 1/4mile strip!! Current times in sig. I will also be installing a 12bolt with either 3.90's or 4.10's. I currently run 3.90's in the 10bolt.

Thanks

Brian

i was very happy with a set of tea 1.5s shaved .030 with a 228r on a 112 +2.with yourt setup you should be in the neighborhood of 11:4-11:5 scr,and around 8.8dcr or so with the right head gaskets. you should be around 350 rwtq @3500 and hit some good peak numbers with a cam around that size.i didn't clay mine so i didn't have a clue how much ptv i had so it might be a good idea to check with anything larger.

Red Fury - I just bought a cam today on here, but thanks. I'll be needing it a lot sooner than the end of summer anyway, lol.

I would like to know what size cam I can use with my 5.3 heads that are milled .020 with a stock headgasket.

I got a message from Mike @ TEA the rule of thumb is 228cam .58x lift......but I never spoke with him to make sure he knew exactly what the heads had done to them!

I don't mind dropping $$ on a cam but want it to be worth while........I am after usable TQ more than peak HP and would perfer something that peaks around 6400 at the latest. My little low lift TR224 has been good to me so I am not quick to yank it out if you know what I mean!

Thanks guys for the reply's

LS1Formulation I figured my timeframe and yours was way off LOL!!

If you have stock uncut pistons anyhting over 228 probably wont fit with milled 5.3's. Read my above post to get an idea of what can fit.

I was looking at the FMS

F5 224/228 .588/.576 112 lsa (114 is a option)
F6 226/230 .575/.595 112 lsa (114 is a option)

how much does the lsa come into play in my situation.

The valves are 2.02 on the intake and stock on the exhaust.

Is there a calculator for ptv clearence for ls1 setups running stock shortblocks with uncut pistons?

LSA and duration are going to have an effect on how much overlap you will have. The overlap period is where the piston is the closest to the valves. generally the more overlap you have, the closer PTV will be.

You cant really calculate PTV the best thing to do is to clay the engine.

my heads were 5.3s shaven .030. i'm sure ptv was on the tight side. the heads had crane duals and the cam peaked between 6100-6200 so i shifted at 6500-6600. unfortunately i spun a bearing before i could get any decent numbers at the track.
