Default ls1 oil pump failure...

I just bought a 98 ls1 camaro and am swapping it all into my 94... but i heard that the ls1 oil pumps cause failure and i was planning on replacing it anyways... some people told me to go with the ported ls6 oil pump and some people said it doesnt really matter the stock one holds up fine.... i found an after market stock replacement on summit racing for 90$ compared to the slp high volume oil pump that is 190$.... would the stock replacement be fine for my car? or would that also have problems in the future...? please help! lol thanks

I would definitly get a ported LS6 pump. The '98's were the worst off all of them plus if it goes your entire engine goes. It's not worth the risk by any means.

I ported and shimmed my oil pump. LS1, it's cammed w/ cnc heads putting down 418rwhp (mustang dyno). I've put alittle over 10k since with no problems here. I have not heard about these oil pumps failing till past few months, people mentioning that they heard but, who has had one failed?

do what you feel would be better, if your concerned then do it for peace of mind. .02

I also say get a ported LS6. Since the motor will be out anyway, might as well switch it for cheap insurance.
As for oil, M1 5W-30.

If you'll have the motor out, you should swap the upgrade the rod bolts too (incase you decide to cam it eventually).
