How loud should the valvetrain be with cam?
How loud should my valetrain be with a 232/236 cam and dual springs? I fired mine up today and damn that valvetrain noise is loud. Kind of sounds like a metallic whiney noise. I guess thats the sewing machine sound everyone talks about.

I've got a 228/230 XER w/rhoads lifters. Sounds like a solid roller! The thing to pay attention to is how "even" the noise is. If all the lifters sound the same AND you're positive your preload and geometry is correct, I wouldnt worry. A few weeks ago, mine developed an extra loud lifter noise. Discovered that a polylock on a comp magnum had cracked and the entire top of it was off, letting the rocker loosen up. BTW, for you who have these, you might order a couple of extras from comp. No other rocker uses a low profile lock like this, just the LSX's. A trip down to the local speed shop isnt going to get you this 3/8" lock.

I have a full backup set for my Cranes.
My car is quiet as stock, but my cam is smaller than others mentioned above. I am also running the Crane rockers, which some have said quiets down the valve train but I don't have a before and after so I can't comment on that.

224/230 on XER lobes. I think it is pretty loud but I have never owned a cam car before. I re did my entire valve train including roller rockers(<--kinda think they were a waste, but what the hell!)

What everyone needs to understand, is you trade much of that quiet operation for performance when you go to aggressive ramps and lobes. Case in point, an LSK cam with those seat durations would spec out to 228/236 115 LSA. Seat overlap doesn't change a bit, but at .050" it jumps 12* from -10 to +2.
