breaking up sounds at ~5500rpm
right before the shift in WOT my car makes a sort of breaking up noise like its cutting in and out. i dont run it WOT too much but i get into it alot. is this noise coming from my heads or more of breaking up carbon build up? i dont feel power loss really, it feels more like the power is leveling off. im probably losing a little bit though. i have an 01 A4 with 83000. no codes either. its probably been happening for 5k miles at least.

i don't know about marbles. id say maybe. but it's not even like the car is running rough. its more of a sound. definantly from the motor. maybe a slight loss in power. ive changed the plugs and wires with in 10k miles. should i check/do plugs again? or check coil packs? what should i do to check coil packs? also if its timing should i look into timing chain?

if it is knocking/detonating double check the plugs and wires, make sure all are cliped on the plug and the coil(coils will double click) then if it still does it youll have to scan it to see if it is showing any knock. if it is then the tune just needs to be tweaked a little . carbon build up over time can make a car ping due to it actully raising the compression ratio . which on a high milage motor is possible . id start there . a timing chain wont fix your timing its all computer controlled .
