Default damages to check for after a blown head gasket?

got an lt1 in the garage right now...guy blew the center of his driver side gasket completely out. is there anything i should check for before reinstalling the heads or should just replacing the gasket be ok? oh btw the gasket blew because his water pump took a crap on him and he overheated. thanks.

Have the heads checked for straitness of deck & for cracks. Did it get coolant in the combustion chambers? If yes then when you get it running check the o2's , & make sure they didnt get coated from burning antifreeze & are now degraded/slow.
