MTI is not as famous as they used to be. Some of their grinds are considered "Old School" compared to advances made in the past 2 years by other shops.
Still some good grinds though.
Some forgotten ones like B1 and T1 are still favorites in their power range area.

X1 with Stage 2E heads make for some fast combos (Wilwaxu)

We still believe in smaller-medium sized cams as opposed to the other shops that think that the largest cam with the big peak number is the best setup. The large peak number might sell the camshaft, but the right setup will outperform and that is what we are about. I've seen countless 224 cam setups out run huge cam cars out peak powering the setup by 25hp. It's all about the setup and as you said, the X1 and stage 2E cylinder head combination has made very consistant numbers with excellent torque curves.

Give us a call and we will get you set up with the RIGHT combination or at the very least grind whatever camshaft you would like.

thats what makes it a tough choice. mti has been established probably longer than any of these other shops. if they were so outdated, they wouldnt be around anymore. i know i was looking into one of there head and cam setups, but keep getting all caught up with all these guys and these new huge peak number combos!! but just like what predator z said man, the mti 2e/x1 combo i think is a pretty stout combo.. maybe wilwaxu can fill us in on his feelings on mti and that setup. i think hes still running that same setup even with all the new stuff for us lsx guys!!

Also customer service is really good and you guys stand behind your products. That is valuable asset.
BTW just to clarify, by "famous" I meant involved on this forum on a regular basis.

LOL...right.

Anyways, most every shop will do a custom grind for you and what a lot of people forget is that a lot of cars with big cams are also at the strip all the time racing their car. I don't see a 224 anywhere near the top of the list on the cam-only record. Do I want a big cam? Hell no, I DD my car every day, but big cams have their solid place in the LS1 market. Just depends on what you use your's for.

I will say this, though, my buddy's untuned stock-headed 02 SS with X1 traps 118mph in a 6spd. with stock clutch, 10 bolt, and 3.42s. And that's with SLP LTs.

I had MTI grind me a 238/242 .609/.615 on a 111lsa and it runs great. Nice lope at idle, but the power comes on really high. With a straight through exhaust it was tough to start in first gear; I switched to the bb prt's from the bullets and it is much better now. I have an 04 vette w/ a 6 speed. Uncorrected numbers were 431hp and 399tq. Now I just need to know what heads would best suit my setup?
