Default LS1 head porting

I am getting ready to do a cam install. I was going to go with a reverse split cam from TR. I was also suggested using the GT2-5. It will have Patriot gold springs and new pushrods and all. Question being, with the cam mods in mind, if I were to take my stock LS1 heads off and have them machined some, will the gain be worth the work or should I just leave the heads on and wait on a new set (stage 2 LS6)? I am also running 1.3/4 Hooker long tubes out of a 3" system.

you would see more gains if you went with the stage 2 ls6 heads over your stock ported heads.

You might see a handful of HP gains, so if thats all your looking for, it might not be worth it. However the added compression makes a TON of difference in drivability. Youll notice a loss of low end torque and not as snappy revving on stock compression. Added compression will really bring the new cam to life. Mix in a thinner gasket and youll be sitting pretty.
