Default comp 918s or dual patriot gold springs with tr224

im thinking of going 224 to compliment my stock rebuild and headers ls6 intake etc, what springs do you reccomend the 918s or patriot gold duals? i am hoping this will make enough power while still letting me cruise and have nice drivability. a4 2000z28

patriots, its nice having a dual spring. if one fails youve got the other for backup. on the 918's if one fails you get to hear a valve drop.

Don't mean to highjack but can stock seats & retainers be used with either spring?

918's will work just fine, you will find that alot of people use them especially on this cam.

i use the 918's with that cam. i went this route because the valvetrain tends to be quieter. plus, i didn't feel i needed the extra spring pressure with this cam.

I think the duals are a good investment, but I'm finding a bit of valvetrain noise, I think I need to go to slightly larger pushrod.

tr224 112 with patriot golds here. I run very little pre load so theres LOTS of valetrain noise but it sees 7K all the time and it sure feels nice not worrying about valve float. I bought my heads used with 918's installed and the springs looked like new but it floated the valves on the dyno.

I spoke with Katech a couple years back about valve springs and they were pretty adamant at that time not to take a single spring over 6500 RPM.

I have 4K on my set up so far with about 40 track passes. Spring pressure? Big whoop its better to be safe than sorry if you want to run it plus the price on the PG's is excellent

918's. I still have the 918's & titanium retainers on my old stock heads. I would not have gone duals, except I got a great deal on the heads with them.

Everyone of you guys runnin singles will be cryin the blues if and when you break one, and your motor goes boom. And you're the same guys that will want COMP to pay for your next motor.
Me personally, I've never liked them, never used them, I try to talk people out of them. I was tellin people years ago that they were a bad idea, long before they started breaking and killin motors. now, I know they are used from the factory, and thousands of people have been runnin em for years, and yada, yada, but all it takes is once and you'll be sorry.

been running 918s for working on 3 years with .59x lift with no problem at all . just be sure to heat cycle them and there will be no worries .
though if you plan on going iwth a bigger cam in the future duals would be a good investment .

The TR224 918 package was pretty standard a year or two ago. I have 'em and run fine for over 10,000 miles. The 918s are fine with this cam however there have been a few bad batches of Comp 918s since they switched manufacturers early this year. PAC used to make the springs for Comp and still make their version of the Comp 918, these are the springs I would recommend.

Duals are OK but the extra "insurance" they offer is minimal considering the higher seat and opening pressure will take its toll on your cam and lifters. The TR 224 cam loses power around 6200 RPM so you don't need to rev the hell out of it. Whatever you choose, make sure you heat cycle any new springs and let them warm up before beating on them.
