Default no o-ring=wore out pump?

If the oil pump o-ring is gone could it cause the oil pump to go bad or make the pump have low pressure when the o-ring is replaced?

Come On, Somebody Has Gotta Know If Not Having The O-ring In Place Would Wear Out The Pump?

I think you will be alright, did you have some work done to your engine and the o-ring was not put back in or on properly?

It's more likely that your main and rod bearings will wear at an accelerated rate due to the reduced oil volume being delivered while the pump is sucking air and cavitating.

Therefore, even after you've installed an o-ring, the pump will be unable to build sufficient oil pressure as measured at the sending unit.

Check the oil and filter you were running while the o-ring was missing for metal shavings/powder. Cutting open the oil filter cannister and removing the paper media will allow you to look between the pleats for this.
