Too thick on the top end, and because it's got such a large viscosity spread, it's got too much viscosity index improvers in it. Stay far away from it.
If you're not burning oil, stick with a 5w30 or 10w30.

Re: Thoughts on Pennzoil 5W50 Synthetic Oil
Although I have used this product in the past, I recently learned that the oil is NOT a true synthetic even though it is labled and priced as a synthetic.
Patman can give u more on this.
Based on the price rip-off factor alone, I would never use it again.

If you're burning oil, that Mobil 1 mixture works well, also you could try out Mobil 1 0w40, or Amsoil or Redline 10w40. Oftentimes though, someone who goes from Mobil 1 5w30 to Amsoil or Redline 5w30 will find their consumption is greatly reduced, since both of those oils are thicker than Mobil 1 (they are on the higher end of the 30wt range)

Mixing 15w50 and 10w30 will give you roughly the same thickness at 100c (operating temperature) but it will also thicken up the mixture a lot more when cold too, so you'll end up with more engine wear especially on a cool morning (say 50F for example) By running the 0w40 viscosity, you're assured that the oil won't be excessively thick under those conditions.
