There is no such thing as a spark plug gasket. You have oil intrusion in the cylinder. This can be caused by poor ring seal or oil in the intake from the PCV system. If the engine has good compression on all cylinders it's most likely coming from the PCV.

you have a bad piston ring. it has nothing to do with the pcv. I deleted my pcv system and put breathers on the valve covers about 30k ago and no issues.

If you are asking how hard it is to changed a piston ring, it's too hard. It requires pulling the heads, bottom end, pulling the piston out of the bore then replacing the ring and re-installing. I doubt you could do it with the motor in the car, so you are looking at pulling the motor as well.

people at ls1.com say its a valve cover gasket since the oil is only on the porcelaine part of the spark plug and not on the electrode...does this sound right? also does anyway know the part # for the valve cover gasket? i cant seem to find it...its fo a 2000 Z28 thanks!

that is correct, if the oil is on the outside of the plug then it's just a cover gasket

Your friend is an idiot, spark plug gasket lol. You should have been more descriptive with the whole oil on spark plug thing. Oil on the outside of a spark plug is hardly worth mentioning, get new valve cover gaskets. Oil on the electrode is a big deal like everyone assumed you were talking about but lucky for you isn't the case.
