i have a buddy with a 6.0 lq4 with about 60,000 mi on it...only wants 600 for long block......will i have any problems getting all my ls1 parts onto this block and will it bolt right up.......
and can anyone tell me the perks of lq4 block vs ls1 block
just need some reassurance before i go through with this deal

all parts should be completely interchangeable, gotta make sure the compression is what you want because the LQ4 come with a "dish" lower compression piston. So yea that would be the only thing to keep in mind really. Other than that the only upside is that its iron, its "stronger", but the downside is that its about 88 pounds heavier than the 5.7 block so you get a few cubic inches and some strength but add weight to the front of the car. hope this helps

The lq4 has a 4.0 inch bore, the same stroke as the ls1 (3.62), and the same rod as the ls1. The only difference between it and your ls1 Is the bore, and the fact that its made out of iron. Everything will interchange. When you order parts just say you have a ls1...less confusion.

what "stuff" are you trying to order??

the bore is different...so ordering pistons for an ls1 won't work if you're putting them in the lq4

Also, since the LQ4 pistons are dished 6.7cc's you may want to put in LS2 or LQ9 flat top pistons to get the compression ratio up. Like the previous post said, LS1 pistons won't work.

One more thing, there is a change in the LQ4 engines. Depending on the year, they made a piston/rod change. The went from fixed to floating pin. You need to have t correct info if you order pistons.

yeah i can tell its a floater.....i am getting ready to have it tanked and jet blasted, then hoaned on wednesday....the shop sd there is only a 3 day turn time.....haha
thats quick.......gonna let the pistons soak in kerosene to get the **** out of the rings and stuff.......then time for ms3 and tons of bolt on-s
any other ideas or suggestions while the engine is stripped and out of the car

You have to order the pistons for whatever bore size you are running. I thought you were talking about headers/intakes/ etc. external parts. Stroke and rod length will be the same....Pistons will be 4.00 or whatever you bore the block to.

i want to see how the pistons clean up then i will explore the options for the bottom end.....i dont want to buy pistons or rods untill they are needed.....the 6.0 will be stronger than the stock ls1 ne ways

talked to texas speed......sd that with that dish on the pistons in the lq4 i would be roughly at 9.1.1 comp with a .040 gasket and 10.1.1 with a .030 gasket.....and safely run a decent shot of spray......with the 10.1.1 would be the safest bet

what do you think???>...
