how far can the cylinder walls be bored on a 98 ls1, what else should i be looking at doing while i am rebuilding.
already am planing on cam install, oil pump, bearings, seals, gaskets ect. planning on using stock crank, what all can be done at a reasonable price for parts as im going to be doing most of the work?

I agree you don't want to maxit out. If you want bigger go with the 6.0 block.

A 98 block should have a 3.898 bore stock, the most GM recommends for a rebuild of the early blocks is a .005 hone. That brings you to 3.903.

Any 5.3 casting will work on a '98 block, its the 98 heads that won't work on later blocks. And the LS6 manifold will also work fine.

Or you could use the opportunity to relocate the coils under the dash if the clean look tickles your pickle.
