Comments/Concerns on choice of heads/cam
I already have the TR 224/244 .563/.563 112 LSA cam with most of the bolt ons in my car. I made 374 rwhp and 381 trq with it. I am looking at either some heads, or a heads/cam setup. My questions are is it worth upgrading to the cam I have listed, and is there another set of heads I can get with a cam that will outperform this setup for around the same price (or cheaper)? Heres what i was looking at:
Precison Race Components Stg 2.5 LS6 Heads & Cam
Item# 25-PKG6 $1,939.99
Texas Speed Torquer v.2 Camshaft $0.00
Pushrod Length: | 7.400" Length (Standard) $0.00
Rollmaster Double-Roller Adjustable Timing Set $114.99
Gasket Kit: | Heads & Cam GM Gasket Kit $140.00
Oil Pump: | TSP Ported LS6 Oil Pump $134.99
_______
$2,329.97 Total
Like I said, I already have the TR224 cam, but I did not get a new timing chain or oil pump when I changed it out (I know I know). Any input you guys have is greatly appreciated.

I would keep the TR224 and add the heads (I'd suggest you grab an LS6 intake if you haven't yet). No need to go to a "nastier" cam. The one you have will make great average power through out the curve and have great peak numbers as well. The TR224 paired with heads is probably the most daily driver friendly combo out there! Lots of power under the curve, crisp throttle response, drive ability that is near stock. What more could you ask for?

agreed!! you would make nice power with the addition of those heads. but you would definitely make more power with those heads/cam too!!

Is there any other set of heads out there that would fit my setup better, that comes with everything that these do for a similar price? I'm being told Dart heads are a ver good option, but I am under the impression my TR224 cam is too small for those. Thanks

The 2.5 5.3l PRC heads or the 2.5 LS6 PRC heads would both work really well with the 224 camshaft. If you were staying with your current camshaft you might consider the 5.3l heads, they have smaller runners & a little bit smaller chamber for more low end hp. We can deck either of heads you choose for some extra compression for no extra charge

Well you were the site I was looking at.... Assume I wanted to make about 450ish hp and stay a daily driver and naturally aspirated, what would you suggest in the way of heads/cam?

im in the same boat as the OP, ive pretty much decided on the 5.3L heads but not sure on a cam. I too have the TR 224/.563 and have been thinking about stepping up to at least the 228R.
Ill be keeping an eye out on this thread
