Engine bogs/misses at 5500+rpms
The engine seems to bog or miss or whatever you guys call it at around 5500rpms or so. Is there a reason for it?
Spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, injectors, whatelse could it be.
Car has ARE stage I heads/cam, TPIS headers, Ed Wright tuning.
Thanks

it really could be any one of those things.....
did this just start up one day (bang...out of the blue) or did it happen after a mod (head/cam/etc...)...?
are the plugs or plug wires stock (could be old....)?
is your filter old?
do you still have a factory fuel pump?

Re: Engine bogs/misses at 5500+rpms
The car/engine has only 14000 miles on it, so I dont think the filter is bad. It has NGK plugs and stock wires. It has the stock fuel pump. I dont recall it doing it all the time, but I seldom take it above 5000rpms. The car is ~4 years old, maybe its time to change the plug wires, fuel filter, and fuel pump.
Anybody else experience this?
Any other ideas?

Re: Engine bogs/misses at 5500+rpms
anything is possible......go through and check from easiest to hardest (and most exspensive)....
ex:
1) test the plug wires with an ohm meter
2) check the plugs
3) change the fuel filter
4) etc...
eventually the car will start to run right....

Do you have an M6 and was this in 1st gear? If so, maybe you bounced off the rev limiter. The tach on these cars is slow and doesn't represent actual RPMs especially in 1st gear where rpms climb so fast.

Re: Engine bogs/misses at 5500+rpms
I do have an M6, I think it was a second gear run, but I'm not absolutely sure. I'll give it another run tonight to test and verify the condition. As previously stated, I rarely run it past 5000 - would that have anything to do with it. Does the computer need to 'learn' anything at higher RPM's to make it smooth?

I use only Amoco 93. Is that as good as Chevron? I don't recall ever having bad gas there, but it could happen anywhere.
I'm gonna check out the 'rev limiter' idea by doing a 3rd gear run and hold it near 5500+ for a few seconds.

Same thing happend to mine. Take a look at your throttle positon sensor. Start the car and let idle. Then while its running, wiggle the sensor and see what happens. If its starts to act funny - there could your problem.

You dont happen to have a aftermarket MAF do you. When Ed Wright tuned my car it did the same thing with a SLP 85 mm MAF.On the dyno the car would lose 70hp at 5300 rpm.We put the factory one back on and everything was fine.Just a thought.

Re: Engine bogs/misses at 5500+rpms
Stock MAF.
I just took it for a jaunt around town with a several 6000 rpm runs. Sometimes it was smooth all the way up, but most of the time it would miss/bog between 5000 and 5500rpms. I was not hitting the rev limiter. Even when I creeped up to 6000 it would do it around 5500 or so.
I'll check the spark plug wires on my ohm meter, what range should they be in?
Could it be the tuning?
I'm not sure how to check the throttle positon sensor on a corvette. Any ideas?

Re: Engine bogs/misses at 5500+rpms
Well, I had the car retuned today by Kieth McCord in St Louis and guess what. No more bogging, missing, falling on its face. Ed Wrights tuning was a POS. He was pulling timing when it should of been adding it and adding it when it should of been pulling it. Kieth got me all fixed up. He couldn't hardly believe how messed up the tuning was. Now the car feels great up to its rev limiter at 6400rpms. Anyone in STL area should definately goto Kieth for tuning. Email me for his contact info. I'll probably put on the new plug wires anyway, since I got them.
