Identifying stock upgraded rod bolts?
I’ve heard that in 2000 GM put upgraded rod bolts into the LS1. I hope to have my 2000 LS1 mounted on the engine stand this weekend, is there any way to confirm/identifying the better bolts when looking at them?
Will these bolts be strong enough? I plan on installing a MS4 cam, this motor will never see spray or boost. I may go with CNC LS6 heads in the future but not more then that.
Thanks for your help guys.

Good question, I personally don't know if visually there is a way to tell if they are the newer style or not. I also know that some Rod bolts have ferrules and some don't. I would be curious to know if the new style "upgraded" rod bolts have the ferrules or not. Maybe we can keep this thread bumped until someone has the answer!

I replaced mine last weekend with ARP's. My car is a late year 2000 with 241 heads and mine had rod bolts with ferrules. That is what got me thinking about it really. I did a search to find out what years had ferrules and found no solid answers.

yep, don't worry about which stock bolt is better. If it's gonna be out of the car go with ARPs or Katechs and forget about it. I did mine with the motor in the car and it was a PITA.

From my research I have found that the ARP's weigh slightly more and the Katech are really pricey. I'm most likely going to get the arp bolts but am still curious about the difference. Also if someone is able to convince me the high-strength stockers are fine for my NA application I might just leave them in.
My 00 motor also has the 241 heads and came out of a ws6 TA, so I’m guessing I probably have the better bolts.
Thanks for the responses so far.
