Damages of Coolant in the Cylinders?
Ok well it's been five months since the ride has been running, FINALLY get the cam/trans in and running right. I go to the tuner, and dyno 435/402 not bad, but expected more. Tuner can't get the car to idle, then I see them bring out the temp gun and tell me everything is cold, even after heavy pulls...
So then he guesses coolant in the motor, because there was coolant leaking from the heads>blown head gasket is the thought... He got the motor to the point today where all he has to do is pull the heads...
My question is how screwed am I if coolant got in the cylinders?
If the gaskets blew the day I drove it after the heads were put on it's been max 5k miles...

good news you didnt hyrolock your motor. i think, a lot of times, most older cars may have a leaky head gasket and causes coolent to leak into the cylinders, and generally its just evaporated by the time the temps in the cylinder reach flash or combustion point, so really its just like burning oil in a sense. i would just change the head gaskets, and inspcet the cylinder walls for damage, and the valves and what not and see how that goes. if it totally blew the head gasket, and you ran it for 5k miles, you motor would be toast by now.

I ran my motor with a small pin hole in the head, for 6 mos. The head has been repaired and the engine seems fine. Did your oil have alot of water in it? I figured I 've lost some life out of the bearings, and the # 8 cyl. rings. # 8 was where the leak was. Check your heads for leaks. I thought it was a gasket it wasn't. The cyl. bore looks ok.

I left the car at the shop for him to do all of the work, he is gonna check everything out and do a leak down test... He thinks that everything will be fine, I trust him too, he only works on LS motors...

Dont worry to much Rob, the head gasket blew probably when you were driving to Newtech. So i really wouldnt worry about to much damage done. But if it happens to be messed up Forged Internals and a Big Shot FTW!!
