Default What causes a stock LS1 to ping?

I had a '99 Z28 A4, stock. Eventually it started pinging under accelleration, maybe after about 75k miles or so. I just got an '01 Z28 M6 also stock with 58k miles and I notice when im hard into the throttle its pinging also. Both cars run premium gas. Ideas?

Thanks.

try doing a Seafoam job to clean out the carbon buildup
also a fresh fuel filter
fresh spark plugs/wires

for sure use some kind of top engine cleaner, its good for you because that means no one ever really did hard acceleration or it comes off, my daily is like that since it hardly ever sees WOT, its nothing bad though

Bad gas, bad plugs, high IAT's, and vacuum leak/s will all cause pinging. I might be missing some. Also ensure that the pinging sound isn't your belt tensioner rattling. When my 2001 Z was stock, I also thought I had a pinging issue. After popping the hood and free revving the engine, I found that the stock tensioner was the culprit of the false pinging sound.
