Default Need Help With Cam Choice!!!!!!

So I have a 2000 SS Camaro and my next mod will be a cam with supporting parts--pushrods,springs,timing chain and oil pump (if i left anything out let me know). I have pacesetter longtubes wit ory through a gmmg catback. A fuddle 3400 stall converter and tranny cooler. Texas speed lid. SLP supframe connectors. I'll do intake after my cam to get rid of the ls1 intake. So thats what I'm working with and here are my goals. It is street driven, ill occasionally take it to the track just to see where I'm at. I do street race quite a bit on weekends. It is not a dd so im not afraid to go big, but at the same time i want it to be reliable. I plan on being "cam only" due to my budget right now so no heads. I dont really want to spin it to 7k either. So... those are my goals. What is the perfect cam for my setup and or goals. let me know guys bc im lost at this point lol thanks for any help!

In all honesty and from experience of going from a tr224 to a 234/240 to a 238/240

The TR224 112 lsa is what you want. It is the quintissential street strip cam.
Great low end and mid range and you dont need to go past 6500 rpms with it. It will out you into low 12's with your stall you could be into the 11's as deep as you want to go with a 75 shot. Of course the right tires and suspension makes a difference as well.

Thanks for the response! I'm not afraid to go big. Just not crazy about the high power curves of the "big" cams...

Yea, since you do like to play around on the street, do you do more roll racing or dead stop. I would get around 228/228 112 LSA. Still a streetable cam and won't kill you gas gauge. It would have great down low power too.

I would go for around a 224 duration, the TR224 is a great choice and also either a 224R or 228R from Texas speed would be a good choice. Once you start going bigger the heads will make more and more of a difference.

For your setup I would go with the 228R from Texas Speed, get yourself a used LS6 intake for around $300 in the parts section and eventually upgrade your heads with some PRC 5.3s or Patriots LS6s and you will be making really nice power and be drivable as ever.

Also...when you install the cam think about lifters...dont know how many miles your motor has but you can pick up a new set of LS7 lifter for about $110, its always a good idea.

Another great options and really the best is to have a cam ground custom for you car.

We offer custom ground Comp Cam packages with springs and pushrods as well as individual cams. All cam are spec'ed by Erik Koenig, he was/is the SAM instructor who opened his own shop. Put his level of knowledge and experience to work for you car.

+1 on the TR224-112. I love mine. I have considered going bigger but then I drive it and the low and mid torque makes me all happy again. Remember, for a 346 ci, 224 is a medium cam. Small is your old stocker. Big durations have their place. Just doesn't seem to fit your exact needs based on the good info you provided.

Just keep in mind that you can limit your future head choices by the cam you select now. If you get that 233 239 cam, you will not be able to use the PRC 5.3 stage 2.5 that have been milled. Not to say that isn't a good cam selection, but just keep it in mind.

The PRC Stage 2.5 heads can be built to clear the 233.239 cam no problem. We have custom valve setups to make that happen! The 228R camshaft made 7rwhp on a a4 car when swapping from the 224 camshaft. I've seen the 233.239 cam make within 3hp of a MS3 on the dyno!!
