Default Nicks/gashes on top of valves

Alright. I'm waiting on my engine to arrive and decided to go ahead and get everything ready for when it arrives. I pulled my cylinder heads out to give them a once over and make sure they're fine to go back on. Well a couple of the valves have slight nicks horizontally across the top of the valve stems and some slight scarring. I had been running the stock pushrods (I do have hardened p/rods for the new engine) and I'm curious as if they were deflecting causing these wear characteristics? This engine was stone cold quiet valvetrain wise. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I don't see any signs of damage on the rocker arms either. HELP!!!!

Thanks for the offer Jason, I'm sending them over to a reputable local machine shop and they're gonna go do a valve job and clean them up for me.

I'm just really curious as to what caused the damage

Alrighty. Well machine shop called today and all the valves are done for. He strongly recommends replacing them. I just can't get whats wrong. Could it be the springs. I had no problems with this car until I put the Patriot Dual gold springs on this thing. Could the spring pressures be too much? The rockers look good also.
