Default Should the new front and rear seals go in this easy?

So after beating the old seals out of my front and rear covers, (front was a pain in the ***) I go to put the new fel pro seals in, and I was able to just press em in with my thumbs somewhat easily. Why were the old ones in so tight, and the new ones go in so easy? From what I remember in my ford 5.0 motor days you had to hammer the new seals in carefully.

I don't know about the rear seal, but I've done a few front seals with cam swaps and they have always just pressed in with thumbs for me. None have ever leaked, so they must be good.

Cheers,

Macca
