will a cloged cat cause bad fuel economy?

also how about if the muffler is very old? will old muffler clog the exhuast?

i mean by bad fuel economy that the car will consume too much fuel.

thanks for replies.

The engine will have to work harder to get you going with a cloged cat, one way to check is drive the car around and get the cat good and hot get out and look under the car if one or both are glowing red you have a clog. night time is the best. And if the cat came apart, the ceramic could be cloging the muffler. Do you hear any **** rattling around in the exhaust?

You will notice a big power loss w/clogged cats also.Bad o2 sensors will give you bad gas mileage, dirty air filter, low air pressure in tires.

i see the exhaust tip shaking a little just more than usual. this is for my 2000 holden commodore car 3.8L V6.

my car (2000 holden commodore 3.8L V6) came with no O2 sensors also there is 3 mufflers in the factory single exhaust system. i think one of the 3 mufflers is a catalytic converter. any one has idea on this car?

thanks for help.
