Default No Oil Pressure!!!!!

my 2002 ws6 has no oil pressure!!

what happened was, i changed my oil today with the usual mobil 1 and mobil 1 filter.. so after i get that done, i go to meet my girlfriend for lunch for her break and on the way home i noticed at idle my pressure was at like 20, and when i was driving, it would go up to 40 which usually it would be at like 50-60... anyway, i get home to my garage with 20psi still.. at this point im assuming the worse.. i go out maybe half hour later, start it and there was no oil pressure... i shut it off IMMEDIATELY! my car has 100xxx miles and raced at the track every so often, and i religiously changed my oil every 3000-3500 miles...

first thought was the sending unit, but im not sure where that is,
second was my oil pump took a ****.
third that new mobil filter was no good
and forth something to do with the gauge cluster...

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

if all was good before the change, start simple its possible you got a bad filter. I would try a new one to rule that out and go from there. good luck keep us posted

Any noise from the motor? Sending unit can be gone. Im not sure how to check it but just replacing might fix it. IF you do replace it then I would pull the fuel pump fuse and turn the motor over and see if you get some oil psi. By the way the sending unit is behind the intake on the driver side. You can get it out without removing the intake but it will require the following.

Remove the coil pack DR side
purches GM oil pressure sending unit socket from orileys
flash light to see better.

Becareful when unplugging the sensor the latch should face foward just pull up and it will come loose. Next place socket over sending unit, loosen it with a ratchet and use your fingers to undo it all the way. They way I replace the sending unit is, Take a small bit of string wrap around the head of the unit, Take end of string and run it throug the hole in the top of the socket. Then take a pice of tape and tape the string to the side of the socket. That way it wont fall out when you go to replace the unit. Follow gm tq specs and you should be good,

Did you happen to look under the car to make sure the filter isn't leaking? If it didn't have any oil pressure at all, then the engine would be making noise. The oil pressure sending unit is on the back of the engine. It is right behind the intake manifold and is a PITA to get to. I would check for leaks, change the filter, then change the sending unit.

Strange, replace the filter and of course check for leaks. Did you check the oil level after you got no pressure?

Low oil level will do that too. Check your dipstick. It's easy to forget how many quarts you added. I've done it. I put six quarts in my wife's Saturn one time. I noticed when I gathered up the bottles to throw them out. I ended up draining and refilling her car.

If you have a manual gauge you can throw that on there after you switch out oil filters.

Make sure you didnt get bit by the latest mobil one marketing scam. The 5 quart jugs in some stores are now four quart jugs and the look exactly the same. Make sure your oil is not low.

First thing would be to just check the oil level. put a new filter on it. check the sending unit for correct operation. if all checks out you have a bad pump.
