a builder says the tr224-114 is too big for stock???
my car is mostly stock, mods are in my sig, and i want a reliable, "smog-ish" legal cam. this builder told be that the thunder cam seems way too big for what i want (is this true??), but i know everyone here has it and loves it.
he recommended a comp cams xfi rpm "xr265hr"
does anyone else have this comp cam???
i also will be getting longtubes, heads, and fast intake in the future.
here are the specs on it:

+1 on the TR224-112. It sounds very good, pulls hard and tunes easily. Not sure on smog myself, however, I have read many posts where people claimed it passes. Gotta love NE Nevada. No smog checks, no cats, no problem.
Anyway, it is a very good cam but you really need headers if you can get away with them. Pretty obvious why your buider wants you to buy Comp. They build some good ones too, though.
Good luck!

The tr224 is a great all around cam.I looked at the comp hr265hr and thought it was a little small.I went with a custom grind comp 224/224 561/561 @115.I wanted something That would pass smog( L.A. Ca.) not be too hard on the valvetrain and would be a really good daily driver.I was told by my mechanic that I could go up to 228 and still pass smog. It's all in the tune. The tsp224 and the tr224 @114 are both really good cams. You can't go wrong with them.

the only time i would install a tr224 in anything is if it were a truck, or a DD..they have great driveability, almost like stock. i cant see why a builder would think it is too big...unless he is used to seeing lift #'s from sbc cams. i told my dad the lift on the cam im buying is .600 and he told me it wouldnt be streetable, and would be a track only car. haha. old school.

I picked up power off idle with my 226 112 patriot camshaft which would be very comparable. A 224 on a 114 would be an excellent choice for a daily driver that will pass smog. If you are considering your builder's reccommendation I would prefer an ls6 camshaft over that one, good luck!

Your builder is a little conservative, they say the tr224 114 lsa is the biggest you can go and still pass smog inspection in California. I would not hold against your builder the fact he likes is street cams smaller.
