Default Question after cam swap

Guys, we did a cam install on an LS1 this past weekend, and afterwards the car was making a loud popping noise through the exhaust from cylinders 6 and 8. While I believe we know what the issue is, I know I wasn't the only one working on the car, and now have to ask a question.

I do not believe the motor was turned to TDC before the cam gear was removed. The new cam was installed dot to dot though. This means we either hit TDC correctly, or are 180 out I believe.

The car starts and runs fine aside from our issues with 6 and 8. I know on the old SBC's if you were 180 out the car wouldn't even start, is that still true with the LS1?

This seems contradictory, did you actually line up the cam dot to dot For sure??

No, there is no distributor in LS1s. The engine uses a cam and crank sensor to determine when it needs to fire and which cylinder.

We installed the new cam dot to dot, but did not spin the old setup that way before taking the old cam out.

yeah, the more I thought about it, the more I figured that was the case. Just paranoid because of the noise. Thanks!
