Default Cam....

If I wanted to put a mild cam on a 02 WS6 and keep stock heads what might I look at? I want something that doesn't have the big cam lope sound. I want something that sounds like the car is just a deep exhaust with a slight chop but gives performance. I would like to have 400 rwhp with my current setup of mti, smooth bellows, asp pulleys, pp tb, lt, cat delete y-pipe and mufflex. What am I looking for for a cam? Size and brands? Any sound clips and performance spec's I might be able to check? Thanks!

Thunder Racing Raptor cam shaft. . .
roughly 619/619 lifts. . . around 235/240 durations and can request different lobe seps.

All that lift will not do much for stock heads. Further, the valvetrain life / durability will be much lower as a result, and that much duration will not be very streetable on a 346. If you don't want a cowboy cam, go with something in the realm of 224/230 - 228/236 with no more than 0.575" valve lift. Lobe separation angle less than 112° will be fairly choppy idling at 800RPM, so I would shoot for 113-114° if you want a nice subtle lope and good torque range.

A 224/228 cam 112 lob as the other guy stated. this is considered small by todays cams we run. it will give you a nice 30hp gain, have a nice idle and drive around town verry close to a stock cam with tune. I like comp cams and this cam can be bought at most places like thunder racing. I have ran this cam size but always wanted more and more. goodluck to ya.

Thanks for the feedback! Mike this is probably more in line with what I was thinking. Spoke to my mechanic today and he was recommending something of the like. 30HP at the wheel or flywheel? I'm starting to wonder at what cost HP comes out anymore. I keep getting deeper and deeper and eventually may come to a brdige and have to decide whether to go forward or stop.
