New L96 RPO...

For 2010, GM is showing a new RPO "L96".... 6.0L, 9.6:1 CR, iron block kind of as a garden variety 364.... I know the LY6 has L92 rectangle port heads, but so far, I have'nt found out if this L96 is using them, or the LQ4/9 cathedrals. I'd hate to pass up a gem in the junkyard. Anybody???

I would suspect with the HP ratings that it is a cathedral port head. But, I have not been able to find a definitive answer on the GM site.

ok, so it is a VVT 6.0L with an iron block with L92 heads.
So, yes, it would be a good find for someone looking to do a 6.0L with L92 heads...

Hmmm, the L96 and LY6 have the same Peak torque @ the same RPM. The Horsepower is very similar as well, could that be just a slightly different cam?
Would you mind telling me what resource you used to determine this? It would be very helpful for me in the future.

I have been searching for all the info I can get for upgrades and I guess it is still that new.. I hope this goes a long way to putting my 70 Monte Carlo into the 20th century..

I was thinking an LS3 Intake, cam and headers... I'm stuck on the headers.. I am thinking the mid length headers not long or shorties.. Not sure how the length plays into things..

Thats what Schram's and Norstram's do, they are official GM dismantlers. They always tear apart new vehicle that got damaged somehow before making it to the dealerships.
I bought a 5 mile engine from Nordstrams and the pistons were still shinny, you couldnt even barely tell the engine had ever been run!

It was damaged in transport from the plant.. I asked the guy.. Ok how is it that the motor only has 2 miles on it.. he said the back of the van got tore up and they scraped the whole thing... I am NEVER this lucky like this.. I just hope I can pull some ponies out of it with usual bolt on items
