Street able and a good daily driver is subjective to what you can tolerate and am comfortable with.

I understand that....I am just happy to see that a 660hp car can be relatively comfortable to drive....I realize that it is subjective....

cheaper to get a $250 5.3 on ebay. They are a really good block to sleeve.

I suppose I could use one but I would rather find one of the ones listed above...if I can't find one then I suppose I will go with the 5.3

1 question is the trans bolt pattern on the block the same for the 5.3 front wheel drive as for 5.3 rear wheel drive.Yeah I found blocks ranging from 170 to 200 bucks this would make for a good block to send to ERL.

a fwd block will not work on a rwd trans and may not have the correct motor mounts

Thanks, here in Houston I use to be able to find aluminum blocks cores for 4 to 500 bucks now you can't find a good core for less than 600 bucks. I'll be stickin to my 408 and getting LSX heads, the LSX block is good but it's to heavy and the sleeve is to short. I still have my 4.17 Eagle crank that I had the rod jour. turned down and I think it will sit in the attic until I can find some thing like a 5.3 or 6.0 block for a reasonable price.

Yeah I have been looking for a little while now and I finally found a guy with a long block he was willing to sell and ship to me. I actually also just found a 4l80e to go along with my project so I picked that up today...now once the long block gets to me I can start collecting parts to start mocking up the engine and trans in the frame and body. Next things on the list are headers, oil pan, engine mounts and adapter plates, and intake...I will keep you posted on how it is coming together...

I can dig that. I got my 4l80e trans from my old job as a elec. apprentice.Old work truck out back with a diesel engine paid 250 bucks for complete truck and lift bucket, engine was bad, sold it for a 50 buck profit I went with the TCI trans controller. I can never finish one thing I must suffer from that ADD disorder. Now looking at LSX CT heads I have a pair of bare l92 heads that need cnc and parts and I will have just about everything except for cam. As stated before I must have ADD.

I bought mine from a place in waco that sells on ebay. $250 for a short block I sold the rods and scraped the pistons. Use the crank for Flywheel holders.

Erl told me the 5.3 they use for superdeck because they are a little stronger block. But the ls2-3 also work

You right I priced the work and I also have the Gm high tech article that explains all the the diff. from super deck 1 to 2 and that the 5.3 is little stronger block.I also would like to tell Briou to look into getting his converter form Circle D or RPM trans in Houston. TCI converter seemed a little too much for me, Circle D and RPM gave me a quote of I think 850 for a single disc convert that stalls at around 4200 but acts like a 3400 stall.

I am definitely looking at options for the trans and converter build...I have a buddy who has worked closely with RPM for several years so I will probably get the trans built by them, as well as a converter.

Back to the purpose of starting this thread...what are y'all's thoughts on an itb style intake? What kind of power are people making with them, what are their street manners like etc?

I went with Vic Jr. and FAST 4150 T/B. 1 Mast intake is best for the money 17$$.00 bucks in all out comp.
2 Custom sheet metal. even more 42$$.00 bucks
3 Holley Ram is good 800. 00 bucks and will rev and support a good amount of air.
4 Individual runner systems 5 to 8 grand
With any of these intakes you are looking for more top end. Also is hood clearance a problem.
Any of these intakes can support over 800 hp with Compression and right cam selection. I read earlier that you will use the Holley ECU. your a tune away. You will lose some torque at the bottom, but with over 625 ft lbs of torque, & your able to climb the REV. limiter.
