Default 650 hp 434 or move up to an LS powerplant

I have a dilemma. I have a customer that has brought a G-Body in and contracted me to build a 550+ hp 383 sbc solid roller Street Dragster full roll-cage, appropriate suspension, and drive-train. He keeps mentioning stepping up to a 434 sbc. With the direction I have went with the suspension. It should be capable of hooking with 1000+ HP on the strip. My Dilemma is if He is going to spend close to or over 10K for 650 HP all motor HP is he knocking on the door of an LS power-plant that can make more power for the same money's? Could some of you share some of your all motor recipes for similar builds.

That is a tough question as you can get there either way. With a Dart block and the heads now available it is certainly doable with a SBC setup. Money wise I am not sure without running the numbers. The other thing is the tuning if running as LS style motor. Will he be capable of making the tuning adjustments?

Tuning? I was thinking MSD 6LS, LS coil packs, and a Holley 850HP carb or maybe step up to a dominator

What kind of HP is practical to expect out of a 408 forged bottom end and after market heads with about a .650 lift cam grind limiting the motor to a civil 3500rpm stall converter

I would run the World block that uses the SBC bottom end, and uses the LS heads and all. best of both worlds.

Plenty of ways to get power from the old school motors but its mainly in the heads. Stepping up to the LS heads can be more cost effective due to the SB2, 18 degree setups and so on get pretty spendy. Then pistons ect
