You should replace it, the motor is internally ballanced but you can still throw off the harmonics of the motor.

if you chipped it off im assuming you where not using a dead blow hammer. If thats the case you might have done some damage to the thrust bearings. You should really never hammer on a balancer but if you have to use nothing other than a dead blow otherwise you can and most likely will do some bearing damage.

The motor is internally balanced, but the balancer/pulley is also balanced to itself. You'll NEED a new one.

You will be fine until you get a new one. I chipped mine too and ran it for 5,000 miles at 400whp and it was fine.

I have a new SFI certified ATI balancer I'm looking to get rid of. It's stock diameter and a much better harmonic dampner. Part number 105-917264. You can read about them here: http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...mid=16&sid=250
Just an option over the stocker. PM me if you might be interested. I'll sell it for half off the new price.

thanks dude. I went ahead and put it back together and it seems perfect. I am going to go ahead and order a ASP or march or whatever underdrive pulley i decide I will get the most results from. I would never pay that much money IF i didnt have too but since I have a legitimate excuse to blow 300 dollars on something that will virtually produce no major results I say what the heck

I can see where your coming from no doubt.. I went ahead and wieghed the chip on a digi scale i just happened to have laying around.. .3 grams.. I think a lttle piece of the lip wont make the pulley fall apart but better safe than sorry

Yea, you don't need a splosion in dear.

See the thing is you have a chip but are there any cracks, that's the real issue.

I would replace that balancer ASAP. ace is right about the chip possibly causing an explosion, and you can guarantee the sucker will explode at redline. I saw pics of one that blew on an older camaro, looked like a small bomb went off under the hood.

And it is a perfect opportunity to use an ATI damper.

Beast's deal sounded good (about what I did for my race car). And ATI will rebuild them for around $70.
