Default First Cam swap 2008 Chevy 5.3l flexfuel LT

Hello, i am new to the forum and would appreciate any help! What the end goal for the truck is a cam swap (afm delete), intake, longtube headers, converter. I also have a 1999 gmc work truck with a 5.3 in it, i need to sell it as i need the space. Are their any parts worth saving off this truck for my cam swap, as this is a gen 3 motor. Thanks! David

Nothing off the Gen3 is worth pirating unless you wanted to send its heads off the WCCH for their "Stage 2" porting service. Which is not a bad idea, at all.

As for cams... if you want to keep VVT, and just delete AFM/DOD, then stick a L92 cam in it with some 1.85 rockers. With the 1.85 rockers, the cam comes to a mild, but usable 198/209 .545/.545 115, and retains full sweep of the stock VVT system. Obviously still replace all the lifters/pushrods/springs.

If you are set on an aftermarket cam, I highly recommend Cam Motion. Give them a call and they will set you straight.

Thanks! I can get more for the truck without parting it out, so I think ill just sell it complete than. I will give them a call, there are so many parts and combos it can seem overwhelming haha. I just want to make sure i get the correct stuff. I will look into that L92 cam, i haven't heard of that before. I appreciate your reply!

Make sure you're 08 has VVT first, not all had it, my 08 only had DOD only. I did a texas speed stage 2 low lift truck cam and speed engineering long tubes and their y pipe. Install was a breeze and I'm happy with how it runs drives and sounds. I've got the SE y pipe hooked into the factory tail pipe and muffler with the included adaptors. It gives a nice sound a start up and idle but is nice and mild and not even noticeable at cruise with the windows up or down. What are your goals with the truck, that can help with cam selection too?
